Frequently Asked Questions

Are Desert Rose Australia’s sunscreens TGA Listed?

Yes, our sunscreens are approved and listed with the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) of Australia with the highest protection - SPF50+. The TGA regulation is the strictest sunscreen regulation in the world.

Are your products cruelty free?

A big yes! This is something we care deeply about. We’re proud to say that Desert Rose is 100% cruelty-free and always will be.

Can I mix this with my foundation?

We get it - life’s busy! But mixing SPF with foundation can dilute the protection. Instead, apply Desert Rose as your last skincare step, let it absorb, then layer makeup on top.

Can I skip the moisturiser if I’m using this?

Desert Rose is a serum, SPF, and hydrator in one, making it perfect for minimalists (or anyone who loves a streamlined routine). However, if your skin craves extra moisture, you can layer it over a lightweight moisturiser.

Can I use this at night?

SPF isn’t necessary at night, but the hydrating and skin-loving ingredients make this serum a great option for daytime protection and moisture.

Can I use this if I have sensitive skin?

Our formulas are designed to be suitable for all skin types and tones. But if your skin tends to be a little extra sensitive, it’s always a good idea to check in with a dermatologist before adding anything new to your routine. If you're unsure, we recommend doing a quick patch test on your neck or wrist first just to be safe.

Can I use this under makeup?

Yes! It absorbs quickly with a dewy (but non-greasy) finish, making it the perfect primer for smooth, long-lasting makeup.

Do I need to reapply if I’m just working indoors?

Yes! UVA rays (the ones responsible for aging) can sneak through windows. If you’re sitting near natural light or stepping out for a coffee run, a mid-day SPF top-up is a must.

Do I really need SPF every day?

Absolutely! The sun doesn’t take a day off, and neither should your SPF. UV rays can cause premature aging, dark spots, and long-term damage - even on cloudy days. Desert Rose SPF50+ keeps your skin protected, hydrated and glowing.

Does it contain fragrance?

Yes - a beautiful light scent of Rose and Lemon Myrtle.

Does it protect against both UVA and UVB?

Absolutely! The serum is SPF50 broad spectrum and provides protection against both UVA and UVB.

Does SPF expire?

Yes - after 12 months opened and 24 months unopened.

Does this help with hyperpigmentation?

Yes! SPF is the #1 defence against dark spots and uneven skin tone. Using Desert Rose daily helps prevent sun-induced pigmentation while keeping skin hydrated and radiant.

Does this work well with oily skin?

Absolutely! This formula hydrates without feeling heavy or greasy. If you have oily skin, you can use it as your daily moisturiser + SPF in one.

How does it compare to regular sunscreen?

Unlike thick, sticky sunscreens, this is a lightweight, hydrating serum that nourishes while protecting. No white cast, no heavy feel - just dewy, SPF-protected skin.

How does the SPF 50+ Hydrating Face Serum work?

Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem accus antium doloremque laudantium, totam rem aperiam, eaque ipsa quae ab illo inventore veritatis et quasi.

How much should I apply?

We recommend 1/4 teaspoon of sunscreen for your face, and another 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) for the neck and décolletage as the golden rule. Apply evenly and allow it to absorb into the skin before makeup for the smoothest, glowy base. Remember to re-apply for continuous protection.

In what order should I use your product?

SPF should be the last step of your daily skincare routine. Let the serum absorb into the skin and then layer makeup on top for the perfect glow.

Is it reef-safe?

Yes! It’s reef-friendly and free from harmful oxybenzone and octinoxate, making it safe for both your skin and the environment.

Is SPF50+ too strong for daily use?

Not at all! Australia experiences some of the highest levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the world, contributing to a high incidence of skin cancer. If the UV index exceeds 3 or above (which it regularly does, even in winter), then you need sun protection. SPF50+ ensures you’re getting the highest recognised protection against UV rays. We recommend SPF daily - all year round.

Is the Desert Rose SPF50+ Serum safe for pregnancy?

Our sunscreen products are approved by the TGA and are safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, if you have any concerns, it's always best to consult your doctor for relevant advice.

Is the serum water resistant or waterproof?

No, we recommend reapplying after swimming to ensure your skin stays fully protected.

Is this a mineral or chemical sunscreen? Which type is better?

Both mineral and chemical sunscreens can be great - what really matters is that they’re TGA-approved and meet Australia’s gold-standard regulations for safety and effectiveness. We chose an SPF50+ chemical sunscreen because it’s lightweight, non-greasy, and layers beautifully under makeup - making it easy to wear every day. It also offers strong UVA1 protection, which is especially helpful for melasma and pigmentation-prone skin.

At the end of the day, the best sunscreen is the one you love wearing daily - because UV doesn’t take a break, and neither should your SPF!

When should I reapply?

Every 2 hours if you’re out in the sun, and immediately after sweating or swimming.

When will my order be shipped to me?

Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem accus antium doloremque laudantium, totam rem aperiam, eaque ipsa quae ab illo inventore veritatis et quasi.

Will it clog my pores or make me break out?

Our products are non-comedogenic, however we recommend a deep cleansing routine in the evening to avoid build up on skin.

Will it leave a white cast?

Nope! This formula is designed to blend seamlessly into all skin types and tones - no ghostly finish, just dewy, protected skin.
